Conduit Expansion
Can I add a workshop panelboard?
Is there any NEC reason I could not add a 50amp panelboard to my home shop and feed it from my main panel board?
The shop is a separate room in the basement, created when the house was added too, by the previous owners. I will pull an electrical permit, I just want to know if I’m on the right track.
Plan:
Add a 50 amp 2 pole breaker to the main panel.
Install about 30’ of ¾ rigid non-metallic conduit & expansion joint if needed.
Run (4) 6 awg THHN (left over from other job) to shop panel board. (L1,L2, Neutral, & Ground)
No main needed in shop panel board because feeder is protect by breaker in main panel.
Thanks

150amp service, main panel has room and house is only 7 years old.
That should be within the NEC. Since it’s a branch circuit of 50 amps, the ground can be smaller than you show like a 10 ga. up to 60 amp. if I remember right. Also check with AHJ if 3/4″ will exceed the fill for the conduit, I think it’s OK, but check anyway. You have more knowledge than a great many that ask questions on line. If in doubt, call a qualified professional electrician to do the work.
